The Preacher Must
Understand
The Scriptures Himself
Example:
The two runners in II Samuel the 18th chapter.
David's army was in battle with Absolem, David's own son.
King David gave Joab and the other officers strict orders not
to harm Absolem, but they disregarded David's order and slew Absolem
when he got his hair caught in a tree, and his mule ran out from
under him. After Absolem was slain David's army won the
battle.
Joab had to send word to David concerning the battle.
In II Samuel 18:19, Ahimaaz said, let me run, and bear the King
tidings, how that the Lord hath avenged him of his enemies.
And Joab said unto him, thou shalt not bear tidings this day,
but thou shalt bear tidings another day: but this day thou shalt
bear no tidings because the King's son is dead. Then said
Joab to Cushi, go tell the King what thou hast seen. And
Cushi bowed himself unto Joab and ran. Then said Ahimaaz
to Joab, but howsoever, let me, I pray thee, also run after Cushi.
And Joab said, wherefore wilt thou run, my son, seeing thou hast
no tidings ready? But howsoever, said he, let me run.
And he said unto him, run. Ahimaaz out ran Cushi and got
to David first. David asked about Absolem, but all he could
say was, I saw a great commotion. He didn't have the message,
so David told him to stand aside and Cushi came and gave the whole
message. Ahimaaz ran, but he didn't have the message.
There are many preachers running with just part of the message.
This is very dangerous, because Jesus said, not every one that
says to me Lord, Lord shall enter in, but they that do the will
of my father. Matt. 7:21-23. See also verses
24-29. Matt. 25:1-13; Luke 6:46-69, And why call ye me, Lord,
Lord, and do not the things which I say? Whosoever cometh
to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew ye
to whom he is like: he is like a man which build an house and
digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood
arose the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not
shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth,
and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built
an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently,
and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
We are built upon the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets,
Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone; in whom all
the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple
in the Lord; in whom ye also are builded together for an habitation
of God through the spirit, or, the Holy Ghost, Ephesians
2:20-22. No other foundation can be laid than the one which
is already laid, which is Jesus Christ. I Corin. 3:11.
Jesus said, I am the way, the truth and the life,
no man cometh unto the father but by me, John 14:6. He said
if any man climb up some other way, the same as a thief and a
robber, John 10:1.
Our souls hang in the
balance and we take it so lightly. Jesus said, straight
is the gate, and narrow the way, which leadeth unto life, and
few there be that find it, Matt. 7:13,14. Then he said,
beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing,
but inwardly they are ravening wolves. He said, broad is the way
that leads to destruction and many there be that go in there at.
Many are following the broad road, sitting on church pews,
they are not being told the whole truth. They, the preachers,
are running but they don't have all the message.
The Pharisees were willingly blind. Hosea
the prophet said, my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
Hosea 4:6. The book of Hosea is about God's love for the
backsliden nation of Israel. It would do us well to study
the book of Hosea. Without the baptism of the Holy Ghost
you have no power to live above sin.
Romans 10:16, but they have not all believed
the gospel, speaking of the Jews, for Esaias saith, Lord, who
hath believed out report. So then, faith cometh by hearing,
and hearing by the word of God. But I say, have they not
heard? Yes, verily, their sound, went into all the earth
and their words unto the ends of the world. But I say, did
not Israel know? Notice here, he is talking about the Jews, the
difference between the Jew and the Gentiles. First Moses
saith, I will provoke you to jealously by them that are no people,
and by a foolish nation I will anger you. But Esaias is
very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not;
I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me, speaking
of the Gentiles. But to Israel he saith, all day long, I
have stretched forth my hands to a disobedient and gain saying
people. Paul is simply saying that Israel could be saved
if they wanted to. In Ezekiel 18:30-32 God asked the question,
Why will you die O house of Israel?
The tenth chapter of the book of Romans, is about
law and grace; the Jew and the Gentile, not meant to be words
to quote in a simple prayer for the plan of salvation. Paul
had no need to give or explain the plan of salvation to the Roman
Church. Because they already knew the plan of salvation.
This is a well established, and well organized church. The
Roman church was established in the 28th chapter of the book of
Acts.
Paul believed the same thing that Peter and the
rest of the Apostles believed about the plan of salvation.
The plan of salvation was given when the church was born on the
day of Pentecost. The Lord Jesus Christ himself orchestrated
the plan of salvation, Acts 1:8; Luke 24:44-52; Mark 16:15-19;
Matt. 28:18-20; John 14:12-18; John 14:26,27; John 16:7-14.
The book of Romans is an Epistle, a letter written
to a church, brethren, the called of Jesus, whose faith is spoken
of throughout the world, Romans 1:1-8. The tenth chapter
of Romans is explained more fully in the eleventh chapter of Romans.
Paul is explaining the Jew and the Gentile. |
